Dear members and friends of the Anthroposophical Society in the Bay Area,
Following in large part from the impulse of David Gershan to revitalize anthroposophical activity here in the greater San Francisco Bay Area, nine individuals have been meeting together over the last year on a monthly and often twice-monthly basis as the San Francisco Bay Branch Initiative group (SFBBI).
The focus of much of the work taken on by SFBBI during this time was comprised of forming a legal and socially viable entity with bylaws [https://anthroposophybayarea.org/bylaws-san-francisco-bay-branch/], filing as an unincorporated non-profit association in CA, opening a bank account, maintaining the current community website [https://anthroposophybayarea.org/], designing a branch website and updating a mailing list of local anthroposophical members and friends. Our work included the structuring of mandates to guide the work of the Branch Council as well as committees in taking up the vital tasks associated with our activities [mandates are listed here: https://anthroposophybayarea.org/sfbb/].
The goals of these activities include:
1) promoting, coordinating, and carrying out anthroposophical gatherings and events
2) holding regular meetings
3) improving communication around such events.
Further goals are to announce events of interest to anthroposophical members and friends, and to provide greater visibility for and connection to each other, to anthroposophy, and to other anthroposophically inspired groups and movements in the San Francisco Bay region, while assuring ongoing financial viability.
During this last year, SFBBI also promoted or sponsored a number of events, including last year’s and this year’s Michaelmas celebrations and several lectures by visiting noted anthroposophists including Dr. James Dyson and Claus-Peter Roeh.
SFBBI is now becoming the San Francisco Bay Branch (SFBB) of the Anthroposophical Society in America. The Branch Council, in keeping with our present bylaws, is composed of no more than five members, each committed to serving on the Council for a minimum of three years. We warmly welcome other local members and friends interested in helping to foster local anthroposophical initiatives and activities through work with Branch Committees. We invite you to let us know of your interest in the work of the Branch, and of aligning your anthroposophic activity with SFBB, supporting or participating in committee activities, or in any way helping to foster and strengthen Anthroposophy here in the Bay Area.
In January, 2027 the SFBB Council plans to announce a program of regularly-occurring, Branch-sponsored meetings and events for the year. We hope you will join with us in strengthening our anthroposophical community!
