Bylaws for
San Francisco Bay Branch,
a California Non-Profit Unincorporated Association
Amended by unanimous approval of the motion to amend by the Branch Council at its duly constituted meeting held in Oakland, CA on August 23, 2026.
A. Organization
● San Francisco Bay Branch (the “Association”) is a non-profit unincorporated association under the laws of the state of California. The Association’s mailing address is: P.O. Box 330136, 1640 Stockton St., San Francisco, CA 94133.
B. Purpose
The purpose of this association is to promote the work of Rudolf Steiner and anthroposophical spiritual science within the San Francisco Bay region. It exists to foster discovery, dialogue, and collaboration among individuals following a path of anthroposophical inquiry and/or contributing to anthroposophical initiatives in the region. The association may hold funds, enter into contracts, and sponsor activities in support of its purpose, and aims ultimately to contribute to a federation of a wider region of allied anthroposophical members and entities.
C. Members
● Any and all members in good standing in the General Anthroposophical Society [GAS] who align with the purposes of this Association are considered members of the Association. All members by virtue of their membership in the GAS understand and abide by the Statutes of the GAS. Further, membership includes anyone who self- identifies or identified as a member of the now defunct San Francisco Bay Area Branch of the Anthroposophical in America and the San Francisco Bay Branch Initiative.
● New Members: People can become members of the Association by becoming a member of the Anthroposophical Society, preferably the Anthroposophical Society in America. However, one does not need to be a member in order to participate in activities of the Association.
● Membership Termination: An individual’s membership in the Association ends when they resign, move away from the region, or otherwise end their formal relationship with any work described in the purpose of the Association. Members may be asked to curtail participation in Association activities if they are disruptive or at the discretion of the Branch Council
D. Governance
The Association will be collectively governed by the Branch Council. The initial provisional members of this group are: Natalie Cargill, Jeremiah Turner, Cole Turner, Katja Wishart, and Mark Zweifel.
- The role of the Branch Council is to assure that the purposes of the Association are fulfilled and fiduciary matters are handled effectively.
- That mandates for working groups are established and reviewed on a regular basis.
- People can join and leave the Branch Council by nomination, self-nomination, and approval of the group. Individuals can express interest, submit qualifications, and be approved by the existing Branch Council.
- Officers of the Association are: Katja Wishart, President, Jeremiah Turner and Mark Zweifel, Co-treasurers, and Natalie Cargill, Secretary for the Association, John Bloom, Assistant Secretary pro tempore.
E. Decision Making
● The Branch Council will make decisions on behalf of the Membership. Decisions will be made by a consensus process and/or assessment for the group’s will. If such is not possible, the officers of the Association will determine a different decision process.
F. Resolving Conflicts
● When conflict arises among members concerning the activities, decisions, and/or assets of the Association, the parties to the dispute will attempt to resolve the dispute by engaging in informal discussions aimed at reaching a mutually agreeable solution.
G. Dissolving or Changing Structure
● The Branch Council and Association may be dissolved by consent of the Branch Council. Failing consensus, dissolution will be effected by 60% or a 2/3 majority of the active Branch Council members. However, no action on the part of The Association in any way compromises any member’s membership in the GAS or any other anthroposophical endeavor or membership.
● After dissolution, the Branch Council must wind down the group’s operation, pay off all debts and liabilities, dispose of assets, and settle all its affairs. After all debts are paid and necessary items are returned or transferred, any remaining assets will be distributed to a successor entity provided its purpose is aligned with the Association’s or, that not being possible, to the Anthroposophical Society in America.
H. Amending the Bylaws
● Amendments to these bylaws may be made by approval by consent of Branch Council members.
